We consider you our honored guest. Thank you, for considering this important topic of the Bible with us. Before you begin, we would like to take a few moments to let you know how we are approaching this subject: calling on the name of the Lord.
God's Holy Word
The Lord, in his loving kindness and mercy, left us His Holy will, the Bible. Among its contents, are all His holy instructions of righteousness, necessary to please him (2John 1:9). Although the Lord left His perfect will (James 1:25), he warned that there would be some who would distort (Acts 20:29; 1Timothy 4:1-3) His pure message from Heaven. The Lord's will, that all should call upon His name to be saved (Romans 10:13), is not immune from those who would seek to change the will of God.
The Trouble with Ignorance
We believe that just as it is possible to properly obey this instruction from the Lord, it is also possible to disobey this command from God. In Romans 10:1-3, the apostle Paul makes reference to this possibility, and reveals the common cause for disobedience is ignorance. Hosea 4:6 declares that many will suffer destruction simply because of a "lack of knowledge".
We, at haveyoucalled.com, do not wish anyone to be ignorant of God's holy will, concerning salvation. Even so, we realize that some will provide errant instruction (Galatians 1:6-9), as to how one should "call upon the name of the Lord". Because salvation comes only to those who have properly obeyed God's commandments (James 1:22-25), we will approach this issue from the vantage point of one who taught and obeyed this command, while at the same time, specifically using the terminology: "call(ing) upon the name of the Lord".
How May I Call Upon The Name Of The Lord?
Our Focus: The Conversion of Saul of Tarsus
We believe a close examination of the conversion of Saul of Tarsus, found in the book of Acts (Acts 9, 22, 26), will reveal the true meaning of the term "calling on the name of the Lord", found in Romans 10, for these reasons:
|
Because the Apostle Paul both taught and obeyed the instruction to "call on the name of the Lord", we believe he provides the most knowledgeable and authoritative commentary on how one should obey this requirement from the Lord. After considering this, there should remain no doubt as to Paul's understanding and use of this term, in matters of teaching or obeying it.
We hope and pray, that after being fortified with this knowledge, many will come to know God's will, and choose to make "the call", just as Paul did.
A Progressive Study
The page links, to the above left, are arranged in order of study. The first two links, after "Introduction": PAUL'S CONVERSION and PAUL MAKES THE CALL, provide the scriptural record of the events, surrounding and including Paul's conversion to Christ. Next, the Q & A section contains questions and answers with regard to how one may scripturally "call on the name of the Lord", and other related topics. We invite questions for this section, which may be submitted via email. Last, the King James version of the Holy Bible has been provided. As you will note, linked scriptural references are given for verification of the information found on this site.
